11 Rules

Tina Roth Eisenberg gave a talk yesterday at Scholastic. She structured her talk around 11 rules:

01. Invest your life in what you love
02. Embrace enthusiasm
03. Don’t complain; make things better
04. Trust and empower
05. Experience is greater than money
06. Surround yourself with like-minded people
07. Collaborate
08. Ignore haters
09. Make time to think and to breath
10. If an opportunity scares you, take it
11. Be someone’s eccentric aunt

The talk was sprinkled with many quotes and anecdotes that highlighted how these rules had come out of her own experience and how she made use of them once she realized they were her rules. It was, I thought, a very affirming talk full of humor, humility and insight into her creative process. She made her process and her experience accessible in a way that made it possible to re-consider my own creative process and decision making process. It gave me lots to think about.
